Day 137- The Bible Recap
Day 137 | 2 Samuel 16-18
Today's reading is 2 Samuel 16-18. Here's what stood out to me:
In a shocking turn of events, David was told Mephibosheth was plotting to take over the throne from David. You'll remember that David invited Mephibosheth to eat at his table and restored all his possessions.
One of the members of Saul's household cursed David and his men while also throwing rocks at them. David's servant wanted to kill the man, but David didn't allow it. David still believed the LORD was punishing him.
Hushai, Davis's friend, told Absalom whom God and the people choose will be the one whom he served...all the while he was secretly spying for David.
Absalom was given advice to sleep with his father David's concubines and allow all to see...this fulfilled the words of the LORD in 2 Samuel 11–12.
Hushai, still secretly working to save David, advised Absalom to find reinforcements because his father was a veteran of war. This allowed David time to escape.
David's men set out to fight but asked him to stay behind. David's only request was that they deal gently with Absalom.
18:8 said, "The battle spread over the face of all the country, and the forest devoured more people that day than the sword." Although Absalom succumbed to both, He was hung by a tree but finished off by David's men. I can't imagine the sorrow David must have felt. He would've given his own life to spare Absalom.
