Day 143- The Bible Recap
Day 143 | 2 Samuel 24; 1 Chronicles 21-22; Psalm 30
Today's reading is 2 Samuel 24, 1 Chronicles 21-22 and Psalm 30. Here's what stood out to me:
David decided to carry out a census of Israel and Judah. By itself, this wasn't a bad thing...there are plenty of accounts of a census taking place in Scripture. But again, this was a heart issue. David took his eyes off the LORD and His might and created within him an anxious heart about numbers and military might.
I thought it was interesting in 21:6 it said Joab (who was opposed to the whole idea) didn't include the tribe of Levi (the priests) or Benjamin (the site of the ark) because he felt conducting the census was itself abhorrent.
David repented but didn't escape consequences for his sin. The LORD gave David a choice, and he chose pestilence, which resulted in 70,000 deaths!
The angel was prepared to destroy them all, but the LORD was gracious enough to stop the complete destruction of the people.
Although David was willing to offer himself to save the people, the LORD asked him to offer a sacrifice instead and made it clear to David the new location of His presence and eventually the site of the first temple.
While it was always David's desire to build the temple, the LORD told him one day his son, Solomon, would be the one to build it. And that day was near. David told Solomon God's plan for him and how he would prosper if he followed after the LORD and His commands.
One day the LORD will turn our mourning into dancing! And today's God Shot is one of my very favorite ones. So encouraging friends!
