Reflect with us:

Today's reading is Proverbs 19-21. Here's what stood out to me:

There are so many wise words in these chapters. 19:21 says, "Many are the plans in the mind of a man, but it is the purpose of the LORD that will stand." Just a reminder that it is God who directs our steps even when we have things "all planned out."

19:23 says, "The fear of the LORD leads to life, and whoever has it rests satisfied he will not be visited by harm." I take this to mean that once you have a proper relationship with the LORD, the trust outweighs life's uncertainties. We can trust the character of God!

20:5 was an interesting verse. To me, it sounded as if spending time in the Word with the Holy Spirit, who knows our hearts best, would help us work through the LORD's purpose for our lives. There's intentionality in the searching.

21:2 says, "Every way of a man is right in his own eyes, but the LORD weighs the heart." Over and over, the LORD looks at our hearts. It's the measurement of our intent in all we do. And in Jeremiah 17:9, we read that our hearts are prone to self-deception and sin.

21:3 goes in line with how the LORD didn't just want the Israelites to offer sacrifices as a ritual. He wanted to see a heart change in them.
