Reflect with us:

Today's reading is 2 Kings 20-21. Here's what stood out to me:

We get to see the account of Hezekiah's illness again. This time through the lens of 2 Kings.

The LORD answered Hezekiah's prayer and healed him, allowing him to live 15 more years. He even goes beyond that to say He will deliver Jerusalem from Assyria for His own sake and the sake of David. Is this because Hezekiah had begun to wander from the LORD's will?

Hezekiah does challenge Isaiah's prophecy of how he will know the LORD's promises are true, as opposed to just having a strong enough faith to believe them.

We also catch a glimpse of Hezekiah's prideful heart when he shows off his wealth to the men of Babylon. "They have seen all that is in my house; there is nothing in my storehouses that I did not show them."

Hezekiah also has such a strange response when Isaiah tells him Babylon will conquer all, including taking some of his sons. Was his prideful heart blinding him?

Both Manasseh and Amon did evil in the sight of the LORD. They rebuilt all the high places that Hezekiah had torn down. They worshipped and served idols. Both abandoned the LORD and His commands.
