Reflect with us:

Today's reading is Genesis 8-11.  Here is what stood out to me.  I'd love to hear from you all as well.

I love that right off the bat verse 1 of chapter 8 starts off "God remembered Noah" and then He made a wind to stop the waters.  The addition of that short phrase makes it sound very personal to me.

The fountains of the deep, which I mentioned yesterday, show up again reminding us that it wasn't just rain.  And the fact that the ark ended up on the top of Mt. Ararat tells you just how high the water was! 8:2, 8:4

One of the very first things Noah did after coming off the ark is build an altar to the Lord.  He probably had some serious cabin fever but his mind was first and foremost on worshipping the Lord!  He offers his best and the Lord responds by promising to never curse the ground because of man. 8:20, 8:21

God will be the One to determine the end of the Earth not man (climate change). 8:22

God promises to never destroy the whole earth with a flood again and creates the rainbow to remind us of this.  We've all seen them before.  Aren't they just magnificent to see EVERY time...they never get old! 9:11-13

The WHOLE earth was populated from these 8 people! Can you imagine starting completely over having just lost everything?  But maybe it was a relief given all the corruption happening around them! 9:19

Whatever sinful act happened at the end of chapter 9 sets up a curse for the Canaanites from that point on. 9:18-27  I find it interesting that later in chapter 10 among the territories mentioned associated with the Canaanites are Gaza, and Sodom and Gomorrah...places with present conflict today or massive past destruction due to sin. 10:19

The Lord told the people to disperse early on but because of their disobedience in staying he confuses their language forcing them to go out into different territories.  When God has a plan man will not stand in the way! Amen?!  What plans have I tried to accomplish outside God's will? 11:4, 11:7-9

We are beginning to see some familiar names in the long genealogy recordings.

Enjoy your weekend friends!  I would love to hear how God's Word has been speaking to you today!
