Reflect with us:

Today's reading is Job 1-5.  Here is what stood out to me:

Job was blameless and upright.  He feared God and turned away from evil. This will be very important to remember as Job's friends try to say otherwise when they come to "help" him. 1:1

Job sent up offerings for his children in the chance that they sinned and/or cursed God. 1:5  As a Mom I can track with this.  When your children come to the age of making their own life decisions/choices it is so very hard sitting back and letting it happen.  In that moment all you can do is trust God, and pray they submit to Him and He guides their hearts!

Even after all the tragic events that occurred Job did not sin or charge God with wrong. 1:22

Even after his own wife tells him to curse God, he "did not sin with his lips." 2:10

Job's friends start off well when they just sit with him in silence for 7 days 2:13  But then they try to analyze the situation Job is in and frankly say things that aren't true while also sprinkling in some truths.  I think this really stresses the importance of who we surround ourselves with and let speak into our lives.  Choose your friends wisely.

Job is in a very bad place.  He eventually says it would be better if he were never born and gives a very lengthy description (all of chapter 3) which gives us even more of a clue the state he is in.

Of all the books of the Bible Job was one of the hardest for me to follow.  I think partly because when reading this the first time around my flesh wanted to ask and question why these things were allowed to happen to Job.  But that's just it...God had to ALLOW Satan to attack Job which means God is in control and we know He works all things together for His good and as a result our good. Romans 8:28 And then secondly because some of the advice his friends give him sounds logical but in reality they are mixed in with false statements which in the end come to the wrong conclusion.  This just further empathizes to me that being in God's Word and being able to decipher truth is so very important!  And that is what we are doing right now...learning TRUTH from His Word!
