Reflect with us:

Today's reading is Job 6-9.  Total transparency I had to read these chapters several times to make sure I understood what was going on and I'm still not 100% sure I get it all.  Here is what stood out to me:

Job continues to poetically describe his agony and asks "don't I have a right to complain". 6:5 Job pleads again that God will spare him from his misery and take his life. 6:8-9

Despite job's pain, mental anguish and heartache he points out that he hasn't denied God 6:10 And he continues to defend his innocence. 6:24-30

Job now begins to question God's motives behind his suffering. 7:17-21

7:17 is an excellent question though...Why would God, the Creator of the universe, care about man?  I am so, so grateful He sets His heart on me...and all of you!

On a lighter note, I don't advise saying to your friend, "How long will you say these things, and the words of your mouth be a great wind?" 8:2 Now that's a great friend...YIKES!

Chapter 8 is Bildad, Job's friend, telling him essentially you need to repent and all your troubles will go away.  But remember Chapter 1 was very quick to point out that Job was blameless and upright.  Tara-Leigh points out in her recap that Job's problems occurred because of his uprightness not because of sin.

Bad things can still happen to us when we are wholeheartedly following the Lord.  We aren't promised a life without trouble in fact when we get to John 16:33 it says "In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart I have overcome the world."  The promise God makes is to be with us through our troubles.

Chapter 9 takes a bit of a turn.  Job describes how almighty God is and asks who would dare say "What are you doing?" 9:1-12  But once we get to verse 17 I start to hear Job saying things that don't align with God's character.  "When disaster brings sudden death, he mocks at the calamity of the innocent." 9:23

Last night in LIFEgroup we were talking about how there are times when reading God's Word that we may not understand the circumstances of why things are happening the way they are, but in those instances we must trust the character of God and what we know about Him.  He is Creator, He is kind and He is just!
