Day 007- The Bible Recap
Day 007 | Job 14-16
Today's reading was Job 14-16. Here is what stood out to me:
In Chapter 16 Job says what I think we all have been wanting to say "miserable comforters are you all. Shall windy words have an end?" 16:1-2
Job then goes on to throw out some extreme assumptions about God and His attitude towards Job. Unbeknownst to Job it is Satan behind his attack and extreme heartache. 16:7-14 I am oh so grateful God doesn't toss us aside when we question Him or even when we get His character wrong.
With all this back and forth conversations about God between Job and his friends I was reminded of something I read recently in a book Pastor Tyler is having us read as a staff (Knowledge of the Holy, A.W. Tozer).
"When we try to imagine what God is like we must of necessity use that-which-is-not-God as the raw material for our minds to work on; hence whatever we visualize God to be, He is not, for we have constructed our image out of that which He has made and what He has made is not God. If we insist upon trying to imagine Him, we end with an idol, made not with hands but with thoughts;an idol of the mind is as offensive to God as an idol of the hand. "
I also felt Tara Leigh's challenge statement/questions at the end of her recap were pretty convicting. "Notice if and when it feels offensive to you that He's in charge."
"Where do you want to be the god of your own life?"
"Where do you feel like He's infringing on your right with His sovereignty?"
Stick with it friends... we are almost halfway through Job and eventually the Lord does respond to him and it does end on a much happier note!
