Reflect with us:

Today's reading was Job 29-31.  Here's what stood out to me.

In Chapter 29 Job recalls how his life used to be...when he felt close to God ("when the friendship of God was upon my tent." 29:4, when he still had his family, when he helped those in need and was respected.  It's a reminder to me that even when I don't "feel" God's presence He is still in control just like He was still in control of Job's life.  Job didn't realize God was still watching over him and walking with him in his trial. How many times do I miss that in my life too?!

In Chapter 30 Job turns his focus back to the present where "now they laugh at me." 30:1 Where "terrors are turned upon me; my honor is pursued as by the wind, and my prosperity has passed away in a cloud." 30:15

Job again casts blame on God. "God has cast me into the mire...You have turned cruel to me." 30:19-21 Job must be in a very, very desperate place!

In Chapter 31 Job compares his life to other scenarios as if to say at least I didn't do this (fill in the blank) if then I'd understand why I would have been punished. Speaking for myself, I know the game of comparison can be very dangerous for my thought process!

This will be the last time Job speaks until God answers him.
