Day 012- The Bible Recap
Day 012 | Job 32-34
Today's reading is Job 32-34. Here is what stood out to me:
Elihu, who is younger than Job's other friends, can't remain silent any longer and speaks out. He was angry at Job's friends because they weren't helpful and angry at Job because he felt "he justified himself rather than God." 32:2-3
Elihu says "it is the spirit of man, the breath of the Almighty, that makes him understand." 32:8, not how long he's been on the earth.
Elihu points out that maybe Job has missed the ways God has been speaking to him. 33:12-17
While Elihu has spoken some truths he is also beginning to sound like Job's other friends. At one point he even says "speak for I desire to justify you. If not be silent, and I will teach you wisdom." Wow! That's pretty presumptuous!
In 34:9 Elihu falsely accuses Job of saying "it profits a man nothing that he should take delight in God." But we can recall Job saying "when He has tried me I shall come out as gold." 23:10, and "I have treasured the words of His mouth more than my portion of food." 23:12 He also accuses Job of being wicked. 34:34-37
I liked today's God Shot...Tara Leigh explained "much of what these men say about God is true; it's when they talk about Job that they get it wrong." I think that's what makes Job so difficult for me...sifting the truth through man's lies.
