Day 013- The Bible Recap
Day 013 | Job 35-37
Today's reading is Job 35-37. Here is what stood out to me:
I don't know about you all, but I am wore out listening to Elihu. Note to self...Just a reminder how difficult it is to listen to someone in your life that lacks humility.
Elihu continues to paint Job as an evil, wicked man (still going against everything we know to be true). Sounds to me like he implies if we feel like God's presence is far from us, as we are waiting in a season of unanswered prayer, that God has even less desire to listen to our petitions and questions. 35:12-14 I'm so, SO thankful that is not the case.
Elihu's arrogance stands out to me again when he claims to have "something to say on God's behalf" 36:4 and describes himself as "one who is perfect in knowledge." 36:2 YIKES! I'm pretty sure The Creator of the Universe doesn't need Elihu to speak for Him.
It's ironic to me that Elihu speaks of the afflicted as "behaving arrogantly." 36:9
Verse 37:5 is a reminder for us all, including Elihu, Job and his friends. God "does things that we cannot comprehend." 37:5 After reading this Isaiah 55:8-9 came to mind again, "My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways My ways, declares the LORD."
I have always been fascinated by clouds and verse 37:16 popped out at me this time, "Do you know the balancing of the clouds, the wonderous works of Him who is perfect in knowledge." Interesting that Elihu describes both himself and God as being "perfect in knowledge". Again YIKES!
With all the discussion about God's awesome might and power in creation I'm reminded of something I read a few years ago in a kid's devotional book by Louie Giglio, "Indescribable". "The sun - it warms our face and gives light to our days. We also draw pictures of it: a small, bright-yellow ball with a smiley face in the center. It just seems so....friendly. But that's only because the sun is 93 million miles away! Up close it's a raging inferno of flames...the sun's core is 27 million degrees Fahrenheit! If Earth were the size of a golf ball, the sun would be about the size of a elephant. You could fit close to a million Earths inside the sun. Like filling an entire school bus with golf balls." And GOD BREATHED that sun out of His mouth! Psalm 33:6
And tomorrow God replies to Job!
