Reflect with us:

Today's reading is Genesis 12-15.  Here's what stood out to me:

If you'll remember the last time we were in Genesis the Lord had just confused the language of all the earth and told the people to disperse. 11:9

God tells Abram to pick up and take his family to the land He will show him. He says He will bless Abram so that he in turn can bless others. 12:1-2

Abram was 75 years old when he obeyed the Lord and left. Can you imagine starting over at 75? He didn't question God or negotiate with Him...he simply went. Not only that but I love that God chooses to use us for His glory no matter our age!

Abram lies to Pharaoh about Sarai being his sister instead of his wife. 12:11-18 Abram had trust in God 's destination for him but in this circumstance he didn't trust God to protect him. Abram's lie not only affected himself but also his wife Sarai and Pharoah. What areas of my life do I not give over to the Lord?

The Lord continues to promise blessings to Abram...both land and children. Since Abram didn't have ANY children at this point this was an even bigger opportunity for Abram to trust the Lord. 13:14-18

Each place Abram settles one of the first things he does is set up an altar for the Lord. Abram was intentional about his worship of God. 12:7-8, 13:18

Abram's nephew, Lot, is captured along with his possessions when a band of kings invade the valley. 14:1-2 Abram then takes forces with him and rescues Lot and restores his people and possessions. 14:13-16

When Abram is put in a position to gain material goods from his victory he honors the Lord by turning it down. He trusts the Lord will provide his needs. 14:21-24 In response the Lord later says his "reward shall be very great." 15:1

God makes a covenant with Abram that his offspring will be as the number of the stars. 15:5 Later in 15 He warns Abram that things will not be easy for him and his offspring, that the road will be very long, but that He will restore them in the end.

I'm so excited for you all because this is the foundation for you to start seeing all the pieces come together! Have a great weekend!
