Day 019- The Bible Recap
Day 019 | Genesis 22-24
Today's reading was Genesis 22-24. Here's what stood out to me:
God tested Abraham by telling him to sacrifice his only son (we know Ishmael is gone now). Abraham doesn't question God...in fact he rose early in the morning to go. 22:1-4 He must have had unshakeable faith that God would provide another sacrifice or raise Isaac from the dead. Verse 22:5 even makes mention, "I and the boy will go over there and worship and come again." Abraham knew God had promised his offspring would be as numerous as the stars so he must have had confidence something miraculous would happen.
God provided another sacrifice on behalf of Isaac...a ram in the bushes...Isaac is spared. 22:13-14 This is a picture of how Christ took our place on the cross and spared us!!!
I also feel like Isaac had to have tremendous trust as well. Tara Leigh mentioned he's not a boy like most of us may have been picturing, he's possibly a teenager or even older. Definitely old enough to overpower his elderly father or at least put up a fight but he willingly submits.
Sarah died and Abraham bought a cave in Hebron, part of Canaan, for the burial. 23:17-20 Earlier God promised Abraham's descendants would live in Canaan. 15:18-21
Abraham asked his servant to go back to his homeland to find a wife for Isaac. He's concerned a Canaanite woman might pull him away from following the Lord. 24:1-9 It's very evident to me the love and dedication of Abraham's servant. The servant prayed that God would give him wisdom and guidance in selecting a generous and compassionate wife for Isaac. 24:12-14
Rebekah not only drew water for Abraham's servant but his camels as well. 24: 15-21. She definitely seemed to have a servant's heart. The servant was grateful to the Lord for answering his prayers and helping him on his quest. He responded by praying and worshipping the Lord. 24:26-28
It stood out to me that Rebekah was given a choice to go with Isaac. 24:57-58. She chose to go and shortly after Isaac and Rebekah were married. 24:6-7
We are getting close to a month friends! Praying you all are being encouraged by God's Word and seeing it work in your lives! God is so, so good!
