Reflect with us:

Today's reading was Genesis 41-42.  Here's what stood out to me:

Pharaoh dreamt two dreams both involving the lesser/unfavorable overtaking the stronger/attractive. He called for his magicians to interpret them and they failed. 41:1-8

The cupbearer finally remembered Joseph and shared with Pharaoh that he correctly interpreted his dream two years ago. Joseph was released from prison and brought to Pharaoh. 41:9-14

In 41:16 Joseph again gave all the credit to God for his interpretation skills. He could have bragged to Pharaoh to gain more favor but chose humility instead!

Joseph explained God was warning Pharaoh that there would be 7 years of plenty followed by 7 years of famine. Joseph expressed the cruciality of choosing someone to oversee the rationing over that time period, and of course God knew this would be Joseph! God brought him from the pit to in charge of all of Pharaoh's people! Pharaoh even said the throne itself was the only thing setting the two apart. 41:40 I think we can also add Pharaoh to the list of bystanders that acknowledged God working through His people for good. 41:39

Joseph honored God in the naming of his two sons. 41:51-52

Because of Joseph's diligent commitment to storing up the excess he was able to sell to the Egyptians and all the earth. As a result he was even able to provide for his estranged father and brothers!

Joseph's dream from 20 years earlier finally came to fruition when his brothers bowed to him. 42:6

Joseph recognized his brothers but they didn't recognize him, probably because they assumed he was dead. 42:13 He accused them of being spies and asked to see their youngest brother. Part of me wonders if Joseph kept repeating "younger brother" to force them to reflect on what they did to Joseph 20 years prior.

In 42:21-22 their guilt got the best of them and they assumed what they were suffering through was a result of their past sin against Joseph. In reality God used their past sin to save all their lives! It was that sin that got Joseph to where he was that day.

Joseph kept Simeon, one of the brothers, back so that they would have no choice but to bring Benjamin to see him.

Continuing to pray for you all as you read! What stood out to you today?
