Day 028- The Bible Recap
Day 028 | Genesis 46-47
Today's reading is Genesis 46-47. Here's what stood out to me:
Joseph's WHOLE family (70 in all) made the move to Egypt. Before he left God spoke to Israel/Jacob in a vision, promising to go with him as he traveled and that He would eventually bring him out of Egypt. 46:4 This was a huge move so I'm sure that was a tremendous dose of peace and confidence for Jacob! Not only that but Tara Leigh pointed out that since they wouldn't have had the Holy Spirit yet, God's manifest presence was such a rare, extraordinary privilege to experience and that's exactly what God offered Jacob throughout his time in Egypt.
Joseph and Jacob had a tearful reunion and Joseph let his family know he would tell Pharaoh they were shepherds and request for them to be relocated to Goshen...for some reason Egyptians didn't like shepherds. 46:34 Pharaoh agreed to let Joseph's family settle in the best of the land, Goshen. They went from dying of starvation to in charge of Pharaoh's livestock...only God could've orchestrated that!
Jacob blessed Pharaoh when they met. He admitted to him his life has been short and filled with evil, potentially referring to his fights with Esau and then the deception with Joseph and his brothers. 47:9 Jacob was humbled.
Joseph eventually brought even more money, livestock and land into Pharaoh's possession as he continued to monitor the stored up grain.
Nearing his deathbed Jacob/Israel had Joseph swear he would not bury him in Egypt. Joseph made the promise...and remember God promised the same thing to Jacob.
