Day 033- The Bible Recap
Day 033 | Exodus 10-12
Today's reading is Exodus 10-12. Here's what stood out to me:
In 10:3 Moses and Aaron bring up Pharaoh's lack of humility. It was Pharaoh's pride and quest for power that made him the man he was. A man that only had his best interests in mind. A man who didn't care who he crushed along the way. A man who will soon realize the power of the Almighty God and beg God's people to leave.
God continued to harden Pharaoh's heart. I read a study in Thru the Bible with J. Vernon McGee that said "the word harden has in it the idea of to twist with a rope. The suggestion is that God hailed Pharaoh into court and made him reveal what was already in his heart. He was not permitted to cover up or compromise. He had to reveal his true intent or thought".
Moses and Aaron, after being commanded by God, go before Pharaoh and threaten locust to come and eat what's left of their crops that haven't been destroyed by the hail.
Even Pharaoh's servants recognized it would be in Egypt's best interest to "let the men go". 10:7 But it also didn't seem like they were thinking all the people. And Pharaoh most certainly wasn't allowing all the people to go. 10:11
In 10:17 Pharaoh asked to be forgiven but "only this once" still affirming his heart was not changed by God's actions.
Next God brought darkness over all Egypt for three days but still gave light to all His people. 10:23 Through all of the plagues God continued to protect the Israelites. Pharaoh agreed to let the people go but their livestock would have to remain...Pharaoh still wanted to be in control.
Before the final plague Pharaoh allowed the Israelites to gain silver and gold from the Egyptians. Not only was he going to free them but also allow them to be cared for after their freedom.
The final plague, death of the firstborn, included their livestock as well.
The Passover was set in place to save all the Israelite's first born but also from that day on to remind the Israelites that God saved them from enslavement through Pharaoh.
Pharaoh commanded Moses and Aaron and all of God's people to leave at once and interestingly enough asked to be blessed as well. 12:32 The Egyptians were fearful they would die next so they too were hastily aiding the Israelites to leave, and gave them their silver and gold along the way.
The Israelites had lived in Egypt 430 years.
