Day 039- The Bible Recap
Day 039 | Exodus 28-29
Today's reading is Exodus 28 and 29. Here's what stood out to me:
God told Moses that Aaron and his sons would be set apart to serve as priests. Not just anyone can do so because of God's holiness. Their robes were to be made with precious materials just like the tabernacle, to represent both beauty and God's glory.
28:3 pointed out that the skillful were so because of the talents God gave them.
The appearance of the twelve tribes' names on the shoulder piece in 28:9-10 indicated that the generations of Israel were precious to God. God also repeated the names of the tribes on the breastplate as well. This was near Aaron's heart therefore it reminded him to "bring them to regular remembrance before the Lord." 28:29
It was so interesting to me that God chose the pomegranate fruit to add to the priests' garments. There are so many speculations as to why this is but on a personal note my mom, who taught Sunday School for many years before she passed, would bring in pomegranates all the time to share with her class. As I young child I didn't know the significance of that but now I see that it was a fruit God used often and symbolized various things throughout His Word.
And I think we all have heard of the significance of the bells on the bottom of their robes in 28:35, if the bells stopped ringing it was a sign something was terribly wrong.
Chapter 29 began laying out the actions that needed to take place in order for Aaron and his sons to be ordained/consecrated.
Again all the details can be challenging but when I read them I like to remind myself one God was doing this for their protection in order to enter His presence and two God is in the details! He cares about the details of our lives too!
And lastly, one of the things that stood out to me the first time reading through this was that there were so many different types of offerings. In chapter 29 these are the types mentioned...sin, burnt, food, wave, drink, grain...and they all represented different things.
