Day 050- The Bible Recap
Day 050 | Leviticus 19-21
Today's reading is Leviticus 19-21. Here's what stood out to me:
I was recently thinking about how, if saved, we have the Holy Spirit giving us guidance and wisdom to help us discern between right and wrong, but during this time the Holy Spirit was not yet dwelling in the hearts of people. He would dwell among them but not yet in them. I wonder if that is one of the reasons the LORD had to be so specific in all of these laws...to us some may seem so bizarre, to the point we may even think why would anyone ever do this? I also imagine many of the actions mentioned in these laws were already actually happening in the neighboring areas, but the LORD wanted His people to be set apart from those inhabitants, so He was very concise in His instructions to keep them from such sin.
When I read through the Bible the first time around I found it fascinating that 19:9-10 spoke to saving the edges of their crops for sojourners, which Tara Leigh pointed out allowed Ruth and Boaz to meet later on...God is in the details to bring about His plans!
Upon first reading 21:16-24 these verses can seem harsh and almost unkind but the more I read them the more I realized these laws protected the person that had the deformity or blemish...not to make them feel excluded or ostracized. In order to get close to God's presence there couldn't be allowances for blemishes because He is holy.
But 21:22 was further proof He didn't exclude them because He allowed them to eat the bread of God.
So grateful that even in His holiness the LORD still wants to dwell with us!
