Day 052- The Bible Recap
Day 052 | Leviticus 24-25
Today's reading is Leviticus 24-25. Here's what stood out to me:
Even the oil that was placed in the lamps was to be pure. The lampstands were made of pure gold. A light was to be kept burning regularly so it commanded their attention and was to be kept throughout their generations.
The bread was made from fine flour and placed on the table of pure gold. The twelve loaves represented the twelve tribes.
An eye for an eye was never meant as a means for someone to take the law into their own hands and seek revenge. Instead, it was meant to allow those in the position of judging to enact law. Murder and justice by killing were two very different things.
The LORD mentioned a new Sabbath but this time it involved the land. This gave time for the soil to rest and renew, making future crops more fruitful. It also gave the people yet another opportunity to trust in the Lord for their needs.
The Year of Jubilee was also another year off which forced the people to trust the Lord even further. During this time debts were cancelled and lands may be returned. The Israelites were to show mercy to each other because God had shown them mercy!
