Reflect with us:

Today's reading is Numbers 11-13. Here's what stood out to me:

The Israelites reverted back to their old days of complaining which angered the LORD. They grumbled about only having manna to eat when in Egypt they had variety. It felt like there was more going on to me though than just complaints of what was on the menu. It sounded like they were saying they'd rather go back to enslavement with an occasional perk than continue to dwell with the LORD in the waiting on the way to the promised land. Again, it comes back to God's perfect timing and trust.

Moses again pleaded with the LORD and He backed down from burning the camp down. Moses then, through an expression of desperation toward the LORD, asked for help...he was beside himself with the flipflopping of the Israelites. He even went so far as to say, "did I give them birth?" 11:11-12

The LORD is gracious in His response and set up an Elder type board for Moses. Then He said He would give the people meat, so much that it would become loathsome to them because they chose to reject the LORD. 11:20

The LORD provided quail but the amounts they gathered showed their greedy hearts and the LORD struck them with a plague. 11:31-33

Miriam and Aaron, in a fit of jealousy, spoke out against Moses. The LORD put them in their place and

reminded them that He spoke directly to Moses not through prophets. Because of her sin the LORD struck Miriam with leprosy. 12:7-10

Spies were sent to Canaan to report back what they saw. Indeed it was flowing with milk and honey. 13:27 Whether they were lying, afraid or exaggerating ten of the twelve spies reported giants in the land and advised against going. But Caleb and Joshua stepped up and said "we are well able to overcome it." 13:30 Why? Because they had the LORD on their side!
