Day 060- The Bible Recap
Day 060 | Numbers 14-15; Psalm 90
Today's reading is Numbers 14-15 and Psalm 90. Here's what stood out to me:
The Israelites again, disbelieving God's power and might, cried out that it would've been better if they had died in the wilderness than face their enemies in Canaan. They even threw their wives and children into it. They didn't understand that it was because of their safety that God was bringing them into this land.
Joshua and Caleb pleaded with the people that the land was good but more importantly said, "if the LORD delights in us, He will bring us into this land and give it to us." They had confidence in their LORD. Giants or no giants our God is bigger! The Israelites responded with cries of stoning them!
For the second time the LORD wanted to break away from the Israelites and start over because of their unbelief. 14:11-12 But yet again Moses pleaded on their behalf. This time Moses highlighted the LORD's slowness to anger, abounding steadfast love and forgiveness of transgressions...in the hopes that yet again He would spare the Israelites.
God agreed He wouldn't destroy Israel immediately but those who continued complaining would get their wish...they wouldn't enter the promised land and would die in the wilderness. And their children, who they implied God didn't care about, would be brought to safety into the land that they rejected. The Israelites faced the choice of entering the land by faith or turning back into the wilderness in unbelief...and they chose unbelief.
The Israelites regretted their decision and decided to try and enter the land even though they were warned by Moses that they would not be accompanied by the LORD. There can be no victory when there is no submission to the will of God. As a result, they were pursued and defeated.
In chapter 15 God went over more laws with the people. There was a clear importance on keeping the Sabbath and setting reminders on their garments to remember the commandments of the LORD...not to follow after their own hearts and eyes.
A few things stood out to me in the Psalm Moses wrote. He acknowledged God was their dwelling place, and that He has always been! When we recognize He is sovereign over our days our hearts will be wise. True satisfaction comes from the steadfast love of the LORD!
