Day 061- The Bible Recap
Day 061 | Numbers 16-17
Today's reading is Numbers 16-17. Here's what stood out to me:
Korah, a Levite, gathered 250 men to organize a protest against Moses and Aaron...to divide the people. He claimed Moses was giving himself too much authority...Moses...the one who felt incapable when God called him, so much that he asked for a helper. Scripture called Moses a very meek man in Number 12:3. Not to mention how many times Moses pleaded for the LORD not to destroy the people! Moses was definitely NOT a man after authority or interested in puffing himself up.
Clearly Korah was jealous of the relationship between Moses and the LORD and wanted more power himself. Moses asked him, is it not enough that the LORD called you to serve in the tabernacle so you could be near Him? 16:9 In their response to Moses they complained again of their circumstances...what they didn't have and where they wanted to be instead.
Again, the LORD was ready to consume the people and even after being unjustly accused Moses pleaded for Him not to consume them all for a few men's sin. The LORD divided Korah and his gang from the people and then caused the ground to swallow up and consume them. And the 250 men who had decided to join them and offered incense unlawfully...He also consumed them by fire from above. As for the rest of the Israelites, the LORD began a plague among them, but Moses and Aaron stepped in on their behalf making atonement for them and the LORD eventually stopped...but not before 14,700 died.
To further prove to the people that Aaron was indeed chosen by God to be priest, each chief from the twelve tribes left their staffs in the Most Holy place. In the morning when they checked, Aaron's staff had bloomed. The people believed and repented of their unbelief.
Today's accounts reminded me again and again that the LORD is pleased by a humble heart and that our pride will get us nowhere. Philippians 2:3-4 says, "Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others." And Psalm 25:9 tells us, "He guides the humble in what is right and teaches them His way."
