Day 062- The Bible Recap
Day 062 | Numbers 18-20
Today's reading is Numbers 18-20. Here's what stood out to me:
The priests, Aaron & sons, were responsible for guarding the interior of the tabernacle and the Levites were in charge of guarding the exterior. The Levites and priests were to trust the LORD for their provisions as they served Him. This required them to walk by faith.
It's evident in verses 3-5 that God didn't want to deal harshly with the people and was very specific with His instructions to keep them from harm.
The Levites were still to give a tithe off the tithe that was given to them. Sacrifice was important to the LORD. It was an act of worship and a symbol of trust and thanksgiving.
The LORD explained to the people how to be clean again after being exposed to death.
The people again began murmuring and complaining about not having water and again comparing their lives to their past Egyptian life...still falling into their past sins.
In 20:8 God told Moses to speak to the rock to provide water for the people. Instead he hit the rock twice...not sure if this was due to frustration/anger or because that's what he did the first time and he just went with what was familiar instead of trusting the LORD to provide as He said. In verse 20:10 Moses even took the credit for the water when he said, "shall we bring water for you out of this rock?" Either way he disobeyed and it cost him entrance into the promised land...which was huge and heart wrenching! The LORD even went so far as to say, "because you did not believe in me, to uphold me as holy in the eyes of the people...you shall not bring this assembly into the land that I have given them." Again a reminder that the holiness of God was never something to be taken lightly. 20:12
I thought it was interesting that my study Bible pointed out that Esau was associated with Edom and therefore when passage was not granted for the Israelites it could've been due to the rivalry stemming from Jacob (Israel) and Esau (Edom).
Aaron passed away and his son, Eleazar, took over his duties.
