Day 064- The Bible Recap
Day 064 | Numbers 23-25
Today's reading is Numbers 23-25. Here's what stood out to me:
Balak, wanting Balaam to denounce and curse Israel, began taking him to various mountain tops to get him to change his prophecy.
In the first attempt Balaam said how can I curse someone who God doesn't curse? God was making it very clear the power didn't rest in the people but it was Him who was in control.
In the second attempt God, through Balaam, reminded Balak that He doesn't lie or break a covenant. In fact He emphasized His intent to BLESS Israel.
In the third attempt we saw the Spirit of God come upon Balaam and again blessings are to come to Israel...prosperity and victories against their adversaries.
Balak was beyond angry at this point but Balaam continued to respond that he could only say what the LORD told him to say.
The final attempt further secured Israel's future and even included a prophecy about Jesus' birth in 24:17, "a star shall come out of Jacob..." Man's attempt to thwart God's plans will always fail...good news for us all!
The Israelites then turned to worshipping Baal. It's hard to hear after everything the LORD just prophesized through Balaam. Again God didn't destroy them all but sent a plague to save the rest of His people from idolatry. He keeps pursuing us even when we wander away. He is so so good!
