Day 065- The Bible Recap
Day 065 | Numbers 26-27
Today's reading is Numbers 26-27. Here's what stood out to me:
The LORD then asked Moses to conduct a new census. I found a comparison chart of the old and the new... I just found it intriguing. Such a marked difference in the tribe of Simeon. This new census represented a new generation. Of the names entered only Caleb and Joshua were present during both, thus fulfilling the LORD's prophesy that the rest would die in the wilderness and that Caleb and Joshua would see the promised land. 14:29, 26:64-65
When land allotments were handed out a problem arose among a group of sisters. Their father had died in the wilderness but had no sons. They were brave to bring this to Moses! And the LORD was gracious to award them the land in a time and place where women were seen merely as possessions. The LORD viewed women and their role in society in a very different way than most during this time. The bravery of these women set a new law in motion from that moment on! 27:8-11
God was compassionate towards Moses and allowed him to peek at the promised land on the top of the Mt. Abarim but He also kept His Word about not allowing Moses entrance due to his sin when striking the rock. 27:12-14 Honestly, I felt a gut wrenching sadness for Moses. So very grateful for the new covenant and Jesus, and grateful for His grace when we sin!
Because of Moses' sin a successor had to be chosen to lead the people into the new land... the LORD chose Joshua.
