Reflect with us:

Today's reading is Deuteronomy 1-2. Here's what stood out to me:

Obeying the LORD's command, Moses reviewed the past journeys of the older generation with the newer generation, with a couple of hopes in mind. One, that they would remember the faithfulness of the LORD and two, that they wouldn't repeat their relative's past sins.

There was the promise and soon to be fulfillment of fruitful land that was set before them, first sworn to their fathers. 1:8

There was the promise and fulfillment of numerous offspring. 1:10

There was the promise and fulfillment of the LORD to go before them and He Himself fight for them...but even still they didn't believe. 1:30-33

There was the promise and fulfillment that the past generation, because of their unbelief wouldn't enter the promised land. 1:34-35

There was the promise and fulfillment that when they changed their minds after the fact and were then ready to fight, the LORD told them if they did they would be defeated because He wouldn't go before them. 1:44-45

There was the promise and fulfillment that even in the disobedience and wandering in the wilderness the LORD was with them and they lacked nothing. 2:7

There was the promise and fulfillment of nations given over to them due to the fear of the former inhabitants. 2:25, 2:31-33

Moses wanted to reassure this new generation of God's faithfulness and His power to keep His promises. God was still faithful to the Israelites despite their persistent sin. I'm so very grateful the LORD continued to pursue them...such good news and great hope for us too!

These fulfilled promises bring us hope and confidence in our faith and in our Savior, who we can be assured loves us tremendously!
