Reflect with us:

Today's reading is Deuteronomy 3-4. Here's what stood out to me:

Moses continued summarizing their journey together. When the LORD told them to defeat a city He would give the city over to them...it didn't matter if they had fortified high walls, gates or bars.

When Moses retold the reasoning behind him being denied entry into the promised land, he blamed it on the people instead of his decision to strike the rock, not once but even twice. 3:26

Moses told the people to listen to God's commands...not to add to them, nor take away from them. 4:2

Moses told the people to remember all the LORD had done to speak with them and dwell with them. What other nation of people could say that? He reminded them to tell their children and their children's children...so that the truth was never forgotten. He knew the people were fickle and also easily distracted by the easy way out.

Moses warned them since they didn't know what God looked like, crafting images of Him was forbidden. Worshipping nature was also forbidden...God reminded them He rescued them from that in Egypt! Idolatry led to death, and idols didn't have the ability to see, hear, taste or smell. 4:28

Moses told them he wouldn't be with them anymore to guide and warn them. They needed to follow the LORD on their own and remember God's covenant with them. If they obeyed, He would help them prosper and be with them in trials. If they disobeyed, there would be consequences...some very severe.

But the LORD was merciful and promised not to leave them or forget the covenant that He made with them. Tara Leigh said it well..."God is so patient with our tiny faith, growing it to be stronger over time as we see His character proven over and over." So very grateful for that!
