Day 078- The Bible Recap
Day 078 | Deuteronomy 24-27
Today's reading is Deuteronomy 24-27. Here's what stood out to me:
When first reading Chapter 24, I thought it sounded as if divorce was just meant as an easy way out of a relationship. But I knew that couldn't be true and thought to myself there has to be more going on. If we look ahead to Matthew 19:7-9 when Jesus was teaching, He was asked why Moses allowed divorce...He responded, "because of your hardness of heart Moses allowed you to divorce your wives, but from the beginning it was not so." The LORD provided divorce as a means out of an abusive relationship...and abuse comes in many forms, including unfaithfulness to marriage vows.
Taking care of the less fortunate was also on God's heart when He wrote these laws.
The people were reminded again to recognize that the produce of the land came from God by giving of their firstfruits...an expression of thanksgiving for His goodness to them.
By keeping His commandments, Israel would be His treasured possession and they would be holy to the LORD. 26:19
God's law was to be prominently displayed so that it was always before their eyes, that they might not fall into sin.
