Reflect with us:

Today's reading is Deuteronomy 32-34, and Psalm 91. Here's what stood out to me:

From Moses' song I pulled attributes of both the LORD and the Israelites.

The LORD was/is great, the Rock, perfect, just, faithful, without sin, upright, Father, Creator, Most High, Provider, and Guide.

The Israelites were crooked, twisted, foolish, senseless, idolators, mindless, perverse, faithless, void of counsel, and lacking understanding.

When the Israelites would hit rock bottom the LORD would be there for them, but He also wanted them to realize that the gods they worshipped had no ability to protect and help them! The LORD "kills and makes alive, wounds and heals," 32:39

Why would they want to worship something they created with their own hands? Isaiah 2:8 Their gods had mouths but didn't speak, eyes but couldn't see, and ears but couldn't hear. Psalms 135:15-18

Before he died the LORD allowed Moses to peek into the promised land. Moses then gave his final blessing to the tribes. Joshua took over command.

I thought Tara Leigh's note about no one knowing the burial site of Moses was interesting...for fear of a shrine being built, leading to more idolatry.

Psalm 91 reminded the Israelites if they focused on the LORD and trusted Him fully, they wouldn't be fearful, and no evil would befall them. He would be their dwelling place and refuge...as He is for us today as well!
