Day 082- The Bible Recap
Day 082 | Joshua 1-4
Today's reading is Joshua 1-4. Here's what stood out to me:
All that the LORD promised to Moses and the Israelites will now be fulfilled through the new leadership of Joshua. I love that the LORD already had someone in mind to replace Moses...His provision is perfect for His people.
The LORD kept His promise to save the Israelites from slavery in Egypt, and now we get to see Him fulfill His promise to His people of entry into the promised land.
One of the things I loved about reading through the Bible chronologically the first time was seeing all the verses I knew and heard as a child coming into context of where they were written. And Joshua 1:9 is one of those verses. It's not a promise of constant prosperity and as easy life...but much better...wherever we go and whatever we go through (good & bad) our LORD IS WITH US! So very grateful!
There was no hesitation by Joshua to take command. He was confident in the LORD, and His ability to give the land over to the people.
Joshua sent spies to Jericho to scope it out. Rahab secretly housed them to protect them. Even though Rahab wasn't living a life completely in the LORD's will, she believed in Him and His power. In exchange for her help the spies promised to protect her and her family.
After the spies were confident the LORD would allow them to conquer the land, they gave the go ahead to Joshua and he commanded the people to follow the ark.
Like the Red Sea the LORD again cut off the water, but this time it was the Jordan River. He did this to show He was with them and would go before them. I love how Tara Leigh pointed out they had to step in before the water stopped this time...walking with God requires increasing our faith along the way.
The LORD commanded Joshua to have each tribe collect a stone from the Jordan and pile them up as a constant reminder of yet another time the LORD provided for them when it seemed there would be no way. He is mighty!
I've been listening to a song recently by Seph Schlueter called Counting My Blessings. There is a line in it that says "God I'm still counting my blessings. All that you've done in my life. The more that I look in the details. The more of Your goodness I find." First it reminds me the more I am in His Word (in the details) I find His faithfulness, His goodness and His provision! And two it's important we remember our blessings, name them out...God called the Israelites to remembrance and we are to do the same.
