Reflect with us:

Today's reading is Joshua 9-11. Here's what stood out to me:

The Gibeonites, fearful of being destroyed by Joshua and the Israelites, deceived them into thinking they were from afar. They tricked Joshua into making a peaceful covenant with them. Joshua failed to consult with the LORD, and after realizing the deception he made the Gibeonites servants because he couldn't go back on his word. I'm sure it would be similar to going back on a vow, which we know was a very serious offense.

God caused the sun to stand still so that Joshua could be victorious over the kings of the Amorites. Most of us probably recently experienced the total eclipse and how awesome a sight it was. I'm sure this was also a very grand experience as well.  One that screamed how great the LORD is!

Then Joshua conquered nation after nation destroying everything just as the LORD commanded. He captured all the kings and their land at one time, because the LORD God of Israel fought for them. 10:42

It didn't matter how many kings joined forces to war against Joshua and the Israelites, because the LORD was on their side they continued to be victorious. Even though circumstances in our lives can seem insurmountable, nothing is impossible with God!
