Day 097- The Bible Recap
Day 097 | Ruth 1-4
Today's reading is Ruth 1-4. Here's what stood out to me:
There was a famine in the land. Tragically both Naomi's husband and eventually her sons died. Because they no longer had providers, which led to a desperate situation for all three of them, Naomi told her daughter in laws they were free to go back to their lands and their gods. Ruth remained and vowed the LORD, Naomi's God, would be her LORD as well. Naomi felt the LORD was punishing her for something she had done...but this was not so.
Ruth was just hoping to get the left over edges of the fields that, due to law, were saved for sojourners. But Boaz recognized Ruth's compassion, devotion and loyalty to Naomi, and allowed her to glean from the good part of the crops with the others. He eventually gave Ruth above and beyond, and provided her with food too.
Ruth eventually pursued Boaz. He made sure to follow the laws correctly and they eventually married and had a son named Obed.
I think it's incredible to think that God used Rahab's son Boaz to establish the lineage leading to King David and eventually Jesus! God used a very tragic situation, a famine, to change the path of a young woman who may have gone off to follow other gods had He not stepped in. There is so much hope in the fact that God uses the outcast, the weak and lowly, the humble, the doubtful, the hesitant, and the least of these for His good and His glory!
