Day 103- The Bible Recap
Day 103 | 1 Samuel 18-20; Psalms 11, 59
Today's reading is 1 Samuel 18-20, Psalm 11, and 59. Here's what stood out to me:
In 18:12, when Saul took David and would not let him return to his father's house, this was a fulfillment of one of the actions the LORD prophesied would happen when a king took over. 8:11
Jonathan gave David his robe and armor, signifying that he, over Jonathan, should be the next king.
It didn't take long for Saul to become jealous of the attention David was receiving. The people recognized David's strength and leadership skills, and Saul was terrified David would take over his kingdom. As Saul's jealousy grew, and since the LORD's Spirit was no longer with him, he attempted multiple times to kill David. The LORD protected David each time and allowed him to evade Saul's attacks.
Saul feared David because he recognized the LORD was on his side.
Saul tried to have David killed by encouraging him to go against the Philistines, and he also tried to use his daughter, who worshipped idols, as a distraction against him as well. All the while, David, because he remained faithful to the LORD, was humble and successful in his conquests.
Jonathan, who was now close friends with David, gave him a secret sign to let him know whether or not Saul was still seeking to kill him. When Jonathan questioned his father for pursuing David, he hurled a spear at him!
Psalm 11 tells us that when it seems like all we know to be true is falling down around us, we are to look up to the LORD. We may be tried and tested, but the LORD is righteous in all He does!
Psalm 59 spoke to when Saul sent men to seek David out with the intent to kill him. David was asking for deliverance and ended this Psalm with faith and trust in that deliverance.
