Day 107- The Bible Recap
Day 107 | 1 Samuel 25-27
Today's reading is 1 Samuel 25-27. Here's what stood out to me:
Samuel died and there was a memorial for him. He was such a faithful prophet of the LORD. He was the bridge between the judges and the kings.
David and his men had been protecting Nabal's property from thieves and raiders. David asked for some food for his men, but Nabal refused and accused David of being disloyal to Saul.
Nabal's response angered David so much that he entertained thoughts of murder. But the LORD used the hospitality and intelligence of Nabal's wife, Abigail, to deescalate David's anger. And David eventually thanked her for her wisdom and from keeping him from doing something that would've caused him deep regret.
Eventually the LORD struck Nabal down and he died. David then married Abigail.
Yet again David had the opportunity to kill Saul but spared him out of respect that the LORD had anointed him king. He did of course make it known to Saul that he could have killed him by taking his spear and water jug. Saul admitted it was sinful to yet again pursue David in order to kill him and called his actions a mistake...only time would tell if his words were truthful.
David decided the only way he could escape living a life on the run was to hide in plain sight, but amongst the Philistines. While his plan worked, as 27:4 said when Saul found out he no longer sought him, I continually thought of all the warnings the LORD gave about living among the enemy and adapting to their culture and customs. Those little compromises eventually turn into big sins!
To me this decision to flee and live in the land of the Philistines seemed like a desperate departure from the constant faith David had before. But even the one who was called a man after God's heart struggled with faith and trust. Encouragement for us all!
