Reflect with us:

Today's reading is 1 Chronicles 1 & 2. Here's what stood out to me:

We come again to some genealogies. I think I have mentioned before that I like to listen to these chapters, which again I think helps with focus so that I don't get caught up on the pronunciations.

I read a little about Chronicles and wanted to share an excerpt of what I learned.

"1 & 2 Chronicles are not meant to be history in the same way as 1 Samuel & 2 Samuel or 1 Kings & 2 Kings; the Chronicles are meant to summarize all of the Jewish scriptures while simultaneously pointing to the enduring throne that would come as the Messiah. Chronicles are meant to cause the reader to reflect on the whole history of God's people and point them toward a King who would come and make everything right. Overall, the contents of 1 & 2 Chronicles err on the positive side instead of focusing so much on the poor choices of sinfulness. An example of this is the omission of the account of David and Bathsheba. Generally speaking, 1 Chronicles tells the stories that refer to David positively, and this is for a specific purpose—to point to Jesus Christ. This book has been strategically organized to point the reader to the King, whose reign will be permanent."
