Reflect with us:

Today's reading is 2 Samuel 6-7 and 1 Chronicles 17. Here's what stood out to me:

We were reminded again of Uzzah's death when he touched the ark because they were mishandling its transportation. If they had used poles like the LORD instructed earlier, this tragedy would've been avoided.

David seemed to be afraid to be in the ark's presence immediately after this event. It wasn't until he saw the house of Obed-edom being blessed by it that he brought it back to the city of David.

David told Nathan that he wanted to build a house for the ark since he himself had a house...and he felt the ark was deserving of a house too. Nathan agreed and told David to follow his heart. The problem was neither had asked the LORD (the owner of the ark) what he wanted. The LORD explained that He's never needed a house and instead planned to build David a house (dynasty). Just because we believe something to be true in our hearts doesn't necessarily make it right. Emotions and feelings can be deceiving.

The LORD reminded David of all the ways he had established and protected him thus far and He promised to do the same with his offspring. David's response to the LORD was one of humility through prayer.
